Gerard Casey (Irish republican)

Gerard Casey (died April 4, 1989) was a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, 1st North Antrim Brigade.

In October 1988 Gerard Casey's home in Rasharkin (Ros Earcáin) was raided by the Royal Ulster Constabulary. While there they removed a legally held shotgun. Casey was charged for possession of explosives, and was taken away to Castlereagh.[1]

On April 4, 1989, members of the loyalist paramilitary, the Ulster Volunteer Force entered the home and fatally shot Casey as he was asleep in his home.[2] Only Gerard Casey(29 years old) was killed in the attack, his wife and children were left unharmed. The funeral was kept private for the family. His family have maintined that there was RUC collusion with those who killed Mr Casey and no-one has ever been charged with his murder.
